Project Description

Client: Hotel Rama International (ITC Group), Aurangabad.

Structure design: Conical tensile membrane structure.

Area: 10600 sqft. approx.

Steel: MS dual epoxy coated.

Paint: One coat of Epoxy primer and two coats of Epoxy paint (Asian Paint).

Fabric: 1050GSM Mehler (German) PVDF-coated FR Fabric.

Project completion time: 65 days.

Challenges: This conical structure has got some unique headaches for us fabricators. The curved steel and slope of the roof mean precise cutting and placement of every beam, truss, and column to avoid costly re-work. We’ll have to break out the trigonometry on this one!

Getting that fabric stretched tight as a drum over the frame without any wrinkles or tenting will be a real puzzle too. We may need to get creative with jacking points and come up with a sequencing plan for the tensioning. And with Aurangabad’s hot climate, we’ll have to account for the expansion and contraction of the fabric so it doesn’t go loose on us.

Then there’s the challenge of maneuvering those monster sections into place once we get them fabricated. Setting them just right with a crane will take some fancy rigging and signals. One mistake and we’re picking up very expensive dropped parts. No pressure!

And we can’t forget this is a race against the clock. With only 65 days, there’s no time for do-overs on a project of this size. We’ll need to make sure we have enough qualified hands on deck to work efficiently. The coordination alone will be a beast.
